In letzter Zeit wurde ich immer mehr auf die Arbeiten des britischen Erziehungswissenschaftlers Drew Whitworth<\/a> aufmerksam, der schon 2009 das Buch "Information obesity" (obesity = Fettsucht) publiziert hat, dass in Ausschnitten auch online verfügbar<\/a> ist.<\/p>\n

Aktuell wurde von Whitworth ein frühes Dokument, in dem der Begriff "information literacy" auftaucht, online gestellt und mit einer kommentierenden Einführung versehen: Lee G Burchinal Rede auf der "Texas A & M Library Bicentennial conference" 1976 mit dem Titel "The Communications Revolution: America’s Third Century Challenge"<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Interessanterweise sind Whitworths historische Aktivitäten eine Grundlage für ein geplantes Buch mit dem Titel "Radical information literacy". In den Präsentationen von Whitworth auf Prezi<\/a> findet sich eine sehr spannende Darstellung des geplanten Buches<\/a>. Whitworths theoretischer Hintergrund ist u.a. der russische Literaturwissenschaftler und Philosoph Michail Bachtin<\/a>. Auch die Präsentation zu "Information counselling : helping communities visualise and optimise their informational environments"<\/a> geht über klassische Sichten auf Informationskompetenz hinaus. Hier heisst es zur "Radical information literacy":<\/p>\n

"’Radical IL‘ is a wider and more democratic distribution of authority over information; requiring moves in both learning and practice."<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Eine weitere sehr interessante Darstellung von Whitworth über wissenschaftliches Arbeiten und Forschung mit dem Titel "Research: an end, a means or a culture?"<\/a> umfasst ein "triadic model of informational relationships"<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Whitworths Arbeiten unterstützen ein notwendiges kritisches Nachdenken über information literacy und darüber hinaus: <\/p>\n
